A nicely toned tetradrachm of Maussolos

SATRAPS OF CARIA. Maussolos, circa 377/6-353/2 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 14.59 g, 12 h), Halikarnassos, circa 375-365. Laureate head of Apollo facing slightly to right, with drapery below. Rev. MAYΣΣΩΛΛ[O] Zeus Labraundos standing right, holding long scepter in his left hand and double-axe over his right shoulder. Boston MFA 1995. HN online 288. SNG Copenhagen 590. SNG Kayhan 1683. Nicely toned. Slightly rough and with minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

From an American collection, formed from the 1960s through 1980s, privately acquired from Empire Coins.
